The Big Apple hosts the Pineapple Island An image representing the islands of Lana’i (a.k.a. the Pineapple Island), Moloka’i and Maui is being showcased front and center at world-famous Times Square in New York City. The creative work was prepared by Glick Design and then transferred to publisher Conde Nast Traveler for digital display on the mammoth Jumbotron screen. The hula halau O Ka Makani Wili Makaha O Kaua-ula, led by Kumu Hula Keali‘i Reichel, is pictured in the image. The juxtaposition of the revered and ancient art form of hula in the very heart of Manhattan’s cacophony of media marks an interesting cultural intersection. Perhaps it also offers some hope to the weary urban dweller of escaping to a refreshingly simpler way of life. Maui No Ka Oi! |
